How to install Windows 10 SDK and Windows 10 New Emulators with Visual Studio 2015 Update 1, Beginners Tutorials with Step by Step Guidance

If you are a beginner with Windows 10 UWP(Universal Windows Platform) apps, this post is here to help you get started. Step by step, I am going to show you "How to install windows 10 sdk ?" and also "How to install windows 10 New Emulators ?" with Visual Studio 2015 Community Update 1. 

This article can explain you about below topics:

Requirements:

• Windows 10 SDK works best on the Windows 10 operating system. And it is also supported on: Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, but not all tools are supported on these operating systems.
• Current release (Version 1511) of the Windows SDK doesn't include a .NET Framework Redistributable Package. So we may need to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 Package.
• Make sure the computer you’re installing on has the minimum required disk space that is from 10MB to 2.5GB hard disk space, otherwise, setup will return an error.
• If you are trying to attempt online installer for windows 10 sdk. Make sure your system having good internet connectivity.
• We can get Windows 10 SDK by installing Windows 10 Standalone SDK or you don’t need to install this SDK if you already having Visual Studio 2015 Update 1 or later.
• You must enable Hyper-V on your machine to use windows 10 emulators

Description:

1. Why UWP apps?

There are so many improvements on Unviersal Windows app development for Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 experience.

• Previously in windows 8.1 universal app project, we need to create two different app packages (.APPX) for windows phone & Windows, but now no more than one app package and we can use only one app package that can run across all Microsoft platforms (Mobile,Desktop,Xbox,Surface Hub, Holographic, IOT..etc)
• Now no need to create two separate projects for windows phone and windows, with windows 10 sdk now build one Universal Windows app that runs on all Windows 10 devices.
• We no longer need a developer license with Windows 10. But we must Enable Developer Mode to your device for development.

2. How to install Windows 10 SDK ?

Please follow below steps to install Windows 10 SDK.

Step 1: Make sure you’ve to downloaded the latest Windows 10 SDK or Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 from here (Note: current version is VS 2015 Update 1). After that downloaded file will be locate at 'Downloads' folder, And I am locating downloaded file in below path.

Now to install setup double click on above file. And it will launch below VS dialog box

We can make custom installation of visual studio 2015 only for Windows 10 development and so make sure to select 'Custom' option and press 'Next' button. Then we would find below screen

Universal Windows App Development Tools are enough to create your Windows 10 universal apps. So make sure to select them from above screen and press 'Next' button and it will ask us for confirmation of visual studio custom installation settings like below,

Now press on 'Install' button and setup will start to run like below

It will take more time and it depends on network speed and your system processor as well. So after some time, windows 10 sdk will be install on your system and screen could be comes with a message like 'All specified components have been installed successfully" and also its better to restart your system before to use windows 10 sdk.

3. How to repair, modify and uninstall Windows 10 sdk?

This step is very easy as same like general software, we need go to Control Panel, open Programs and Features and select our software name is Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2015 with Update1 and right click on to change. 

Now wizard would be like below

Now press what ever you want to perform on setup below actions

Modify: This options is for changing custom installation of Visual Studio

Repair: If you think any package installation was missing from your current custom installation settings, then again you can repair setup to get missing package installation on your machine.

Uninstall: This option is for removing setup from your PC, Note: you need to also remove shared components of Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 SDK.

if you think any package was missing from your installation, press 'Repair' button from wizard, but it will take time for repairing setup and screen could be comes with below message like 'All specified components have been repaired successfully" and also we need to restart our system for making better result of setup file.

4. How to install Windows 10 Emulators?

Generally it is impossible to test our UWP app on every Windows 10 physical device, So visual studio made an nice extension is called Emulator concept, So Emulators can help us to see how our app appears on a different Windows device. But there are below few limitation to use windows 10 emulators

• To test app in any of the emulators, you must have to install Visual Studio 2015 update 1 or later on a your machine.(Like in earlier above discussions)
• Your processor should supports Client Hyper-V and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT).

By default, directly Windows 10 Emulators may not available with current version of Visual Studio 2015 Update 1 and you need to download windows 10 emulators separately. So please follow below steps to install window 10 emulators

Step 1: How to to download windows 10 Emulators SDK?

When you open your visual studio to create new UWP app and trying to run your app on emulators from Debug section you would be find below screen:

So click on 'Download New Emulators' and it will redirect to a Windows 10 Emulators link there you will find below option to download latest emulators

Okay to download emulators, Tap on 'Install Emulators' and it will start to download setup file and locate it in 'Downloads' folder. So after completion of download i placed the setup file in below folder path:

Now double tap on above setup file name is 'EmulatorSetup' and you will find below screen:

In above screen for offline installation, I am trying to download entire setup file to specific folder path is 'D:\Softwares\VStudio\2015\EmulatorSetup\EmulatorOffline'. you can also choose first option for direct online installation if you have good network speed in your PC.

Now the wizard will ask you about 'Windows Kits Privacy' with below screen, choose 'yes' and press 'Next' button

Now you can get download option for windows 10 emulators and press 'Download' button to start.

After some time it will complete download and shows  where it is downloaded like below screen.

Step 2: How to to install windows 10 Emulators?

So now its time for installing emulators, go to setup download folder path at 'D:\Softwares\VStudio\2015\EmulatorSetup\EmulatorOffline'. here you will find below files

Now run above setup file name is 'EmulatorSetup' and you will find below screen:

Press 'Next' button and it will again ask you about 'Windows Kits Privacy' choose 'Yes' and Click on 'Next' button. After that you need to accept 'License Agreement'. So finally you will get 'Install' option from below screen

Now setup will start for installation, and one more important note you must enable Hyper-V in your machine otherwise it will throw an error like below

If you have already enabled Hyper-V machine, setup file will be smoothly install on your machine and you will get success installation message.

Wow!!! now every thing is configured for your Windows 10 development, and you can start to build nice Windows 10 Universal Windows Platform(UWP) apps.

Cara System Restore Windows 8 / 8.1 dari Safe Mode

Tutorial ini saya tulis karena saya janji kepada pengunjung blog saya “ Ephul Art ” yang kebetulan memiliki masalah dengan LAPTOPnya yang menggunakan OS Windows 8. Permasalahan yang dialami adalah tidak bisa masuk ke system windows atau terkadang malah berhenti dan blak screen. Hal ini memang tidak bisa dilakukan dengan cara SYSTEM RESTORE yang normal karena kita tidak bisa masuk ke Mode Normal-nya Windows.

Terdapat dua cara untuk masuk ke menu [Safe Mode] . Anda dapat masuk ke menu [Safe Mode] ketika dalam keadaan normal,atau ketika Anda tidak dapat masuk ke system seperti yang dialami oleh pengunjung Blog saya Sdr “ Ephul Art “

Jadi langkah yang harus di ambil adalah me-RESTORE SYSTEM lewat Safe Mode atau Mode Aman Windows .

Cara Masuk ke Safe Mode Windows 8 dan 8.1 ketika kita tidak dapat masuk ke system Windowsnya ( ini bukan tips system restore pada normal windows )

Cara 1 : Kombinasi Shortcut keyboard

1. Menekan Tombol Shift Saat Melakukan Restart ( Jika Masih bisa memasuki Windows 8 / 8.1 ) adalah dengan menekan tombol Power pada layar login Windows . Kemudian , tekan dan tahan tombol SHIFT pada keyboard dan klik Restart.

2. Atau Menekan Shift + F8 Saat Startup windows menyala ( Tidak bisa masuk Windows )

3. Windows Akan Menampilkan Pilihan Seperti ini .Lalu tekan Troubleshoot .

4. Pada layar Troubleshoot, Pilih Advanced Options .

5. Pada layar Advanced Options, tekan Startup Settings.

6. akan muncul pemberitahuan untuk melakukan restart untuk untuk mengubah beberapa pilihan Windows, termasuk memungkinkan Safe Mode. Tekan Restart.

7. setelah komputer melakukan restart secara otomatis akan menampilkan sembilan pengaturan startup, termasuk Safe Mode, Safe Mode dengan Jaringan dan Safe Mode dengan Command Prompt

8. Tekan tombol 5 untuk mengaktifkan Safe Mode dengan Jaringan,alasan saya paling tidak nanti kita butuh koneksi internet terkait system restore atau ada kemungkinan lain agar Anda tidak mengulangi dari awal jika sewaktu waktu butuh koneksi internet. Setelah itu Windows 8 dan Windows 8.1 akan melakukan booting sesuai dengan pengaturan yang Anda pilih.

Sampai disini Anda sudah masuk pada mode Aman ( safe mode Windows 8 ). Kita tinggal melakukan system restore windows 8.

1. Pertama buka search kemudian ketikan View advanced system settings, ketika sudah muncul klik.

2. Kemudian navigasi ke System Protection dan kemudian pilih System Restore.

3. Nantinya akan terbuka jendela wizard pertama, pilih next untuk melanjutkan proses.

4. Setelah itu akan muncul list restore poin yang dapat anda gunakan, pilih lalu pilih Next. atau kamu dapat mengklik Scan for affected programs untuk melihat efek yang akan terjadi dari restore point tersebut.

5. Terakhir nantinya akan muncul konfirmasi restore poin yang Anda gunakan, untuk melanjutkan proses pilih Finish.

6. Sebelum berlanjut ke proses restore, system akan memperingatkan bahwa system restore tidak bisa dibatalkan hingga prosesnya selesai, pilih Yes untuk memulai System restore.

7.Proses system restore pun dimulai, lama tidaknya tergantung besarnya perbedaan antara pada saat keadaan sistem waktu membuat restore poin hingga sekarang.

8. Kemudian setelah selesai sistem akan merestart dan mulai untuk merestore keadaan sistem pada saat membuat restore poin, seperti settingan, registry, dsb. jika sudah selesai komputer akan login kembali ke Windows dan akan muncul notifikasi yang menyatakan bahwa system restore berhasil dilakukan.

Begitulah cara melakukan restore di Windows 8 / 8.1 ketika kita tidak bisa masuk ke sytem normal Windowsnya. Semoga bermanfaat…

Salam Blogger, Cukup lama saya tidak menulis artikel baik mengenai IT maupun tutorial tutorial seputar blogger, tapi saya tetap menjawab pertanyaan pengunjung seputar artikel yang saya tulis, karena saya anggap kewajiban penulis memberikan jawaban atas pertanyaan pengunjung Blog. • This article is targeted for windows 10 Universal Windows Platform(Version 1511) , so make sure you’ve downloaded and installed the latest Windows 10 SDK from here.
• We no longer need a developer license with Windows 10. But we must Enable Developer Mode to your device for development.

1. How to create new project in Windows 10?
Before to use calendar controls, first we need to create new project. 

• Launch Visual Studio 2015
• On the File menu, select New > Project.
• The New Project dialog appears. The left pane of the dialog lets you select the type of templates to display.In the left pane, expand Installed > Templates > Visual C# > Windows, then pick the Universal template group. The dialog's center pane displays a list of project templates for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps.
• In the center pane, select the Blank App (Universal Windows) template.The Blank App template creates a minimal UWP app that compiles and runs, but contains no user-interface controls or data. You add controls to the app over the course of this tutorial.In the Name text box, type "UWPCalenderControl".Click OK to create the project.

Visual Studio creates your project and displays it in the Solution Explorer.

2. How to use CalendarView control in Windows 10?
Now its time to use calendar controls and from windows 10 OS we have an in-built class called CalendarView, which can provide a standardized way to let users view and interact with a calendar. If you need to let a user select multiple dates, you must use a CalendarView.
Okay now lets start to use CalendarView in our MainPage.xaml like below:

1. <CalendarView x:Name="MyCalendarView DisplayMode="Month" SelectionMode="Multiple" CalendarItemBackground="LightBlue" BorderBrush="Orange" BorderThickness="3"/>  

In above code 
SelectionMode property is set to Multiple to let a user select multiple dates. DisplayMode property is useful to set calendar startup view and it is having three values(Month,Year,Decade). By default, it starts with the month view open.

So when users click the header in the month view to open the year view, and click the header in the year view to open the decade view. Users pick a year in the decade view to return to the year view, and pick a month in the year view to return to the month view. The two arrows to the side of the header navigate forward or backward by month, by year, or by decade.
And in C# code we can also set selected date, MinDate & MaxDate like below:

2. MyCalendarView.MinDate = new DateTime(2016, 2, 28);//Min date is FEB 28th 2016

3. How to use CalendarDatePicker control in Windows 10?

The CalendarView gives you a standardized way to let users view and interact with a calendar. If you need to let a user select multiple dates, you must use a CalendarView. If you need to let a user pick only a single date and don’t need a calendar to be always visible, consider using a CalendarDatePicker or DatePicker control.  So CalendarDatePicker can represents a control that allows a user to pick a date from a calendar display.

Okay now lets start to use CalendarDatePicker in our MainPage.xaml like below:

1. <CalendarDatePicker x:Name="MyCalendarDatePicker"/>  

But we can also add more below properties to CalendarDatePicker

• customize Header
• PlaceholderText
• We can also set DateFormat
• DisplayMode of calendar(Month, Year, Decade)

4. How to run Windows 10 UWP app in emulator?
Now its time to test our sample, so follow below steps to run the app.
Step 1: In addition to the options to Debug on a desktop device, Visual Studio provides options for deploying and debugging your app on a physical mobile device connected to the computer, or on a mobile device emulator. You can choose among emulators for devices with different memory and display configurations like below

Note: 

1. It's a good idea to test your app on a deivce with a small screen and limited memory, so use the Emulator 10.0.10240.0 WVGA 4 inch 512MB option.

2. If you want to test our app in physical device, you must Register your Windows Phone device for development.

3. If you already have .APPx file, you can deploy it from WinAppDeployCmd.exe tool

After selecting emulator/device, From the Debug menu, click Start Debugging or Press F5. Then we can found below screen on emulator/device:

Important Notes:

1. A user can clear the selected date by clicking the selected date in the calendar view to deselect it.
2. By default, the minimum date shown in the CalendarView is 100 years prior to the current date, and the maximum date shown is 100 years past the current date. You can change the minimum and maximum dates that the calendar shows by setting the MinDate and MaxDate properties.
3. By default, the month view shows 6 weeks at a time. You can change the number of weeks shown by setting the NumberOfWeeksInView property. The minimum number of weeks to show is 2; the maximum is 8.

4. This sample will be work on all window 10 devices OS devices. And this sample was tested in Emulator & Lumia 735 device with Windows 10 OS (version 1511).

5. Windows 10 SDK works best on the Windows 10 operating system. And it is also supported on: Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, but not all tools are supported on these operating systems

6. This article is developed on windows 8.1 OS Machine with 64 bit.
